Learn to Crochet Granny Squares - Saturday 16th March

Crochet Granny Square

This course will teach you one of the main crochet stitches and start you off on a crochet journey that could well last a life time!

Date: Saturday 16th March 2019
Time: 10am-3pm

Cost: £30 including tea, coffee and materials

On this course you will learn to:
– crochet treble crochet stitches
– change colours
– follow a crochet diagram and read a pattern
– weave in ends
– block your work
– join your squares together

I will provide you with a 4mm hook and the yarn, you are however more than welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

We will break for ½ hour at 1pm for lunch, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch or there are some lovely nearby cafes you could have lunch at. (we’re looking into prebooking arrangements)

Crochet Face Scrubbies - Saturday 25th May

This project is suitable for anyone who knows the basics of crochet, we will be using dc and tr stitches.

You will need to bring a 4mm crochet hook, yarn needle and cotton yarn (aran weight is best) but don’t worry if you don’t have any yarn, I will have cotton yarn available to buy in the workshop (Scheepjes Cahlista £1.50 for a 50g ball) and you are very welcome to borrow a hook.

How much yarn will you need?  Small amounts of different colours is best, my cotton comes in 50g balls but if you have scraps at home they’ll be ideal too.

On this course you will learn:

  • To make cotton face scrubbies, the ecological alternative to using throwaway cotton wool pads
  • How to crochet in a circle using 2 methods; in a spiral and with a join
  • How to make a magic ring to start
  • How to fasten off invisibly
  • How to make a little pot to put them in

Granny Square Pin Cushions - Saturday 22nd June

This course will teach you to make a very useful pincushion using granny squares. We will be sewing a little stuffed pouch to go inside and making a little crochet dish to stop your thread from rolling about.

 This project is suitable for anyone who knows the basics of crochet, we will be using dc and tr stitches.

You will need to bring a 3mm crochet hook, yarn needle and cotton yarn (4ply or dk weight) but don’t worry if you don’t have any yarn, I will have mercerised cotton yarn available to buy in the workshop (Scheepjes Catona £1.80 for a 50g ball or Sirdar Cotton dk £4.70 for a 100g ball).

I will provide the stuffing, cardboard, fabric and thread to make the inserts with.

How much yarn will you need? You won’t use a whole 50g ball, you can make it all in one colour or two.

On this course you will learn:

  • How to crochet a granny square
  • How to crochet a flower
  • How to crochet two squares together
  • How to make the insert of the pincushion
  • How to make a matching sewing thread holder

Crochet Cotton Dishcloths - Saturday 6th July

Time: 10 – 3pm

 This project is suitable for anyone who knows the basics of crochet

We will start off by making small swatches of each stitch so you can decide which one to make your dishcloth out of.

You will need to bring a 4mm crochet hook, yarn needle and cotton yarn (aran weight) but don’t worry if you don’t have any yarn, I will have cotton yarn available to buy in the workshop (Scheepjes Cahlista £1.50 for a 50g ball).

How much yarn will you need? Each dishcloth uses around 100g of yarn but we will be making small swatches first before you decide which stitch to use.

On this course you will learn:

  • How to crochet with cotton yarn
  • Sedge stitch, spider stitch, moss stitch, shell stitch, griddle stitch and corner to corner crochet (or as many of those as you want to try!)

We will break for ½ hour at 1pm for lunch, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch or there are some lovely nearby cafes you could have lunch at (we’re looking into pre-booking arrangements)

Crochet a 'String' Market Bag - Saturday 17th August

This course will teach you to make a market bag, those ones that seem to expand forever! Not actually string, we’re going to use cotton yarn.

Date: Saturday 17th August
Time: 10 – 3pm

Cost: £30 including tea and coffee

 This project is suitable for anyone who knows the basics of crochet, we will be using dc, tr and htr stitches.

You will have the choice of making a full size or a smaller bag.

You will need to bring a 3mm crochet hook, yarn needle and cotton yarn (dk or 4ply) but don’t worry if you don’t have any yarn, I will have mercerised cotton yarn available to buy in the workshop (Scheepjes Catona £1.80 for a 50g ball or Sirdar Cotton dk £4.70 for a 100g ball).

How much yarn will you need? The large bag uses around 200g of yarn.

On this course you will learn:

  • How to work in rounds and in a spiral
  • To use a US pattern
  • How to work decrease stitches

We will break for ½ hour at 1pm for lunch, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch or there are some lovely nearby cafes you could have lunch at (we’re looking into pre-booking arrangements)

Recycled Fabric or T-shirts Crocheted Basket - Saturday 14th September

This course will teach you to make and use old t-shirts or fabric to make yarn. We will then move on to make storage baskets either from what we’ve made or from recycled yarn that’s already ready made.

You will need to bring a 6mm (or maybe larger) crochet hook, old t-shirt or similar, yarn needle and t-shirt/fabric yarn with you but don’t worry if you don’t have any I will have some recycled t-shirt yarn available to buy.

Acorn Amigurumi - Saturday 12th October

This course will teach you to make cute little acorns with faces and acorn cups for them to sit in – so sweet! This is a great introduction to crocheting amigurumi.
