Cat in a Stovepipe Hat!

Cat in a Stovepipe Hat!

I was all set to write up the pattern for my amigurumi bunny scarf, to go with the amigurumi bunny kits I make, but we had such unexpectedly lovely weather at the end of February that it no longer seemed appropriate (though I will get round to doing this in the future).  Instead, I decided to design a top hat to go with my amigurumi cat kits.   It took me a lot longer than I anticipated – I decided to take photographs to explain parts of the pattern so it’s more of a thorough job than I originally intended!

So here it is!  I hope you like it!

Stovepipe Hat

A free accessory pattern to go with my amigurumi cat kits

Key – UK crochet stitch terms used

htr – half treble                       dc – double crochet
ch – chain                                BLO – back loop only
ss – slip stitch                         FLO – front loop only
st/s – stitch/es

For this pattern I used Stylecraft Special Chunky and a 4mm hook

R1:  Make a magic ring, ch1 and crochet 9htr into it, join with a ss to the first htr made

(Click here to take you to my how to make a magic ring tutorial)

R2: ch1, 2htr in each st around, join with a ss (18 sts)

R3: ch1, dc in BLO of each stitch around, join with a ss (18 sts)

Instead of going under both loops of the ‘v’ as you usually would you go through the back loop only.

(if you haven’t crocheted over your initial end then now is a good time to sew it in)

You end up with the front loop making a ridge and you’ll now be crocheting up the sides of the hat.

R4 – 8: ch1, 1htr in each st around, join with a ss (18 sts)  This row is repeated 5 times

R9: ch1, dc in FLO around (18 sts)

You have how changed direction again and will be crocheting the rim of the hat

R10: ch1, 2htr in next 9 sts, turn (18 sts)
(check the hat on your cat’s head to see if this a good size, as you can see for me my cat’s ears are roughly central so 9 sts works, you may have to adjust for your own cat)

R11: ch1, 1htr in next 2 sts (the first of these will go directly below the ch1 you just made.  I’ve put a wool needle in the space to show you), then 2htr in the next st (repeat the pattern of 1htr, 1htr, 2htr till the end of the row) (24sts)
fasten off.

Now you’re going to make the front on the hat rim.

To make space for the ears you need to miss a stitch out on each side.  So join the yarn one stitch in, in the 2nd picture the yarn needle shows you the missed stitch and the crochet hook shows you where to join.  On my hat I have 7 stitches to crochet into.

R12: ch1, 2htr in the same place as the join (shown where my yarn needle is again) then 2htr in the next 6 sts (or as many as you need for your hat making sure you leave the last st empty) (14 sts) turn.

R13: ch1, 1htr in the next 2 sts (again the first stitch you go into is shown with my yarn needle), then 2htr in the next st (repeat the pattern of 1htr, 1htr, 2htr till the end of the row) finishing with 1htr in the last 2 sts (do not turn) (18 sts)

R14: ch1, then 1dc around the whole of the hat brim being careful not make the stitch that jumps the gaps too loose.  Join to the 1st dc of the round with a ss and fasten off (42 sts)

Weave in the ends.

Lastly pop it on your cat’s head!  Ta da!

I hope you enjoy making your top hat for your cat!

Do You Have Anyone Left To Buy For?

Do You Have Anyone Left To Buy For?

Have you got anyone left to buy for?  I’m always a bit late with my Christmas shopping so I’ve still got a bit more to do!  I may be able to help with yours though, with a little Miss Gregory’s Gorgeous Gifts Ideas List.

1 – For the Crafter

An amigurumi crochet kit!  My crochet kits are ideal for the crafter in your life.  As long as they know how to hold a hook and a couple of basic stitches they’ll be good to go!  I provide website support with my little video tutorials and am always happy to help with questions, I’m just a contact form or message away!

2 – A Very Special Present for New Parents

One of my crochet baby blankets will knock their socks off!  These blankets are designed with longevity in mind, they can be passed down through the generations to come.  Beautifully crocheted with gorgeous natural fibres or premium acrylic if you prefer.

3 – For the Unicorn Mad

The cutest little baby unicorn you’ll see anywhere!  Like all my amigurumi these mythical lovelies come with their own bed and blanket.
There are only 2 of these left in my shop right now.

3 – For the Cat Lover

The purrfect gift for anyone who adores cats.  So so cute in their little beds!

4 – For the Baby

A very grabbable amigurumi doll.  These loveable people are designed to fit in little hands, they are of course CE marked (so they meet the toy safety requirements like all my toys), they have no hard parts and can be popped in the washing machine when they get grubby.

6 – For Lion Tamers

These little lions are already tame of course but they like to play along!  Perfect for the young and the young at heart who love teeny roars.

7 – For Your Hunny Bunny

These bunnies are the most adorable, they have extra long ears which give them a lot of charm!  One of my personal favourites these are – I have a soft spot for a bunny!

8 – For Dormice Adorers

Do you know someone who loves these little critters?  They each have the sweetest little nest to curl up in and fluffy tails like a dormouse should have.

9 – For Dog Owners

Someone who has a dog really does appreciate these little sweethearts, they’re the cutest little puppies that you can tuck up in bed!  What’s not to love?

10 – For Wolfy People

These little wolf pups are just the thing for people who love the wildness of a wolf but want them cuddly like a puppy really!  Softies!

I hope that’s been some help to you, I’m off now to do some shopping of my own now so here’s wishing you a fabulous Christmas!

My last order date is 17th December for UK customers only.

See you next time!

2018 Here I come! (If only I actually was that dynamic!)

2018 Here I come! (If only I actually was that dynamic!)

Hi there!

It’s the second month of 2018 and I already feel like I’m juggling balls.  I’m not sure if this is because I’ve got a lot on or if I’m just terribly disorganised!!’

At this moment in time I’m working on a batch of amigurumi bunnies, my Etsy shop needs replenishing and I have a craft fair at the end of March to make stock for, and the shops I stock could do with some more – so at least I’ve started these.  I’m taking on one creature at a time!

Amigurumi Bunnies

Those of you that follow me on Facebook will have seen that I’ve been upsizing some of my amigurumi patterns, the idea behind this is that I’m creating some amigurumi kits for people to make their own cute little bunnies, cats and dogs!  Most of this process is still in my head, though it is coming together.  I’m really pleased with how they’ve turned out – I’m hoping to have some of these ready by the end of April when I’m trading at Wonderwool Wales on the Powys Creative stand, then I’ll be rolling them out to my Etsy shop and bricks and mortar shops that I supply.

Amigurumi from Miss Gregory's Gorgeous Gifts

My crochet lessons are starting this week and I have the first couple of projects all ready to go with a few more to be announced later in the year.   I have also started to take on private lessons which is quite exciting!

So 2018, I’m here, in between my mini-panics and endless digressions, I’m here.

That’s all from me right now, thanks for stopping by to catch up with me!
