Blanket talk!

Blanket talk!

A few months ago I asked my friend if I could do a photo shoot with her children for my blankets, she very kindly agreed.  I’m so very grateful to her!!  Her son is around 2/3 years old and was very happy to oblige, he was intrigued by the colours in the blankets and keen to see which one was coming next.  I couldn’t have asked for a better model he was so fab!  He chatted along to me as he sat in our local park looking extremely cosy under the blankets.

When it came to photograph his little sister it was another matter!  She was not having any of it, it was clearly a ‘not today thankyou!’ situation – oh well, can’t have it all I guess.   As you can see I got some amazing photos.

I do love crocheting baby blankets!  They are one of my favourite things to do, the whole process is delightful from start to finish.

Usually, I start from the yarn, picking out what colours go together and deciding what yummy yarn to use – sometimes a difficult job because there are so many gorgeous yarns available to choose from!  Occasionally I’ll start with the design as some yarns seem to go better with some designs than others.  I like to use a cotton or baby merino to make a traditional continuous granny square blanket for example.

Each blanket takes me anything from 12 to 24 hours to make depending on the design and size, so the initial design process is pretty important, I don’t want to be unhappy with the result at the end of all that work!  The type of yarn I pick is important too, I like to use natural fibres wherever possible, not only do they produce something very special at the end, they’re also amazing to work with.

A cotton or merino blanket feels luxurious to touch, very soft and supple, perfect to have next to a babies skin; the pure wool and wool/alpaca blankets have a lovely sumptuousness to them and a weight that you just don’t get with acrylic fibre yarns.

Acrylic yarns do have their place though, they make the best lightweight blankets which are great for that extra layer or for slightly warmer weather when you only need a light covering.

You can find my blankets in my Etsy shop and also at Quillies a bricks and mortar shop in Rhayader, mid Wales.

I also offer a custom service, I can make a blanket in colours of your choice and design – contact me to discuss the details of your heirloom in the making!

Do You Have Anyone Left To Buy For?

Do You Have Anyone Left To Buy For?

Have you got anyone left to buy for?  I’m always a bit late with my Christmas shopping so I’ve still got a bit more to do!  I may be able to help with yours though, with a little Miss Gregory’s Gorgeous Gifts Ideas List.

1 – For the Crafter

An amigurumi crochet kit!  My crochet kits are ideal for the crafter in your life.  As long as they know how to hold a hook and a couple of basic stitches they’ll be good to go!  I provide website support with my little video tutorials and am always happy to help with questions, I’m just a contact form or message away!

2 – A Very Special Present for New Parents

One of my crochet baby blankets will knock their socks off!  These blankets are designed with longevity in mind, they can be passed down through the generations to come.  Beautifully crocheted with gorgeous natural fibres or premium acrylic if you prefer.

3 – For the Unicorn Mad

The cutest little baby unicorn you’ll see anywhere!  Like all my amigurumi these mythical lovelies come with their own bed and blanket.
There are only 2 of these left in my shop right now.

3 – For the Cat Lover

The purrfect gift for anyone who adores cats.  So so cute in their little beds!

4 – For the Baby

A very grabbable amigurumi doll.  These loveable people are designed to fit in little hands, they are of course CE marked (so they meet the toy safety requirements like all my toys), they have no hard parts and can be popped in the washing machine when they get grubby.

6 – For Lion Tamers

These little lions are already tame of course but they like to play along!  Perfect for the young and the young at heart who love teeny roars.

7 – For Your Hunny Bunny

These bunnies are the most adorable, they have extra long ears which give them a lot of charm!  One of my personal favourites these are – I have a soft spot for a bunny!

8 – For Dormice Adorers

Do you know someone who loves these little critters?  They each have the sweetest little nest to curl up in and fluffy tails like a dormouse should have.

9 – For Dog Owners

Someone who has a dog really does appreciate these little sweethearts, they’re the cutest little puppies that you can tuck up in bed!  What’s not to love?

10 – For Wolfy People

These little wolf pups are just the thing for people who love the wildness of a wolf but want them cuddly like a puppy really!  Softies!

I hope that’s been some help to you, I’m off now to do some shopping of my own now so here’s wishing you a fabulous Christmas!

My last order date is 17th December for UK customers only.

See you next time!

Fun with Stop Motion Animation

Hello!

I’ve always had a bit of a longing to make little stop motion animations and I have had a go here and there in the past.  The first time I did one was while (not) doing my homework many moons ago!  I remember taking a series of photographs of a prit stick rocket taking off and the lid falling off to land on some unsuspecting blu tac model of a person – splat!  Ha ha!  I’m not sure the quality of my videos is any better than it was back then but it’s so much fun to try!

I have a couple of little films on my youtube channel – yes I have one of those!  Much to my own surprise too!  I added another one a couple of days ago, this one is showing how to make one of my amigurumi kits and to start off it looks like that’s all it is, but wait for it …….. I have some teeny little helpers turn up!  I hope you have as much fun watching it as I did making it, I do plan to do more in the near future too.

Here is my latest video:

If you wanted to buy one of my kits or my little helpers they are available in my Etsy shop here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MissGsGorgeousGifts

I also have some in Quillies in Rhayader, Talgarth Mill Craft Shop in Talgarth, Charlotte of Hay in Hay-on-Wye, and The Wyeside Arts Centre in Builth Wells.

Amigurumi Lion and a Wolf!

I had a couple of custom orders recently that have led me to expand my range of amigurumi unexpectedly!

I was all set to design a unicorn (which I still plan to do) when I was asked to create a Lion for a first birthday present and a Wolf for a lady who wanted a special present for her boyfriend.  I designed these for my customers and immediately loved them so much!!!  So I shall now get busy making some more of these for other people too 🙂

See what I mean!  How can I not make more of these, they’re so cute!

The Wolf (so hard to photograph in black!) was sold alongside one of my little cats – such a sweet picture they make!

Keep an eye on my Etsy shop for these, they’re on their way!
